
Tammie Harkey
Chief Financial Officer
Tammie Harkey serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Suda Institute, where she is responsible for overseeing the fiscal operations and activities of the organization. She has over 30 years of experience working in public health and over 20 years specializing in fiscal management and oversight. She began her career at the Cabarrus County Health Department working directly with patients in the clinical setting for seven years and moved to the financial field to process accounts payable. She assisted in the transition of the Public Health Department to the Public Health Authority of Cabarrus County and became the Finance Director for the agency. Tammie created the finance department and managed all financial duties. She managed budgets for private, local, state and federal programs and projects, $18.5M. She provided financial training and assistance to department and program managers. She served on the Senior Management Team, Grants Writing Team, and Strategic Planning Team. She earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for completion of the annual audit for thirteen straight years (2000-2013). She completed coursework in 2003 at Duke University and earned the Certificate in Non-Profit Management. In 2007 she earned top honors for a business plan she helped develop through the Management Academy for Public Health provided through a partnership of UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. In recognition of her strong leadership skills, Tammie was selected to serve as the agency lead for the accreditation process. Additionally, Tammie’s strong organizational skills were utilized as the Project Manager for the new $16M building project when the Cabarrus Health Alliance moved to the North Carolina research campus. She served as a consulting CFO for the Cabarrus Federally Qualified Health Center (McGill Family Medicine) while the position was vacant. Although she retired from the public sector, she continues as co-owner and financial manager for her husband’s HVAC business. She loves retirement and spending time with her family and fur babies, but her heart will always belong to Public Health and the people served. Tammie is excited to be a part of an entity that creates innovative ways to provide care for all.
