Pregnant women with substance use disorders often encounter challenges in accessing obstetrical care. In Cabarrus County, the SUN project employs a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach to prenatal care. This initiative not only addresses the needs of expectant mothers and their newborns but also extends support to the entire family through a comprehensive array of services that prioritize compassion. Cabarrus County Commissioner Steve Morris, Dr. Russell Suda, CEO Gina Hofert from the Suda Institute, alongside members of the UNC School of Government team including Mark Botts, Kristi Nickodem, and Dr. Teshanee Williams, were recently featured on the Elected Ed podcast to delve into the details of this groundbreaking endeavor.
